Time: November
Place: Pushkar, Rajasthan

The small town of Pushkar is amongst most sacred pilgrimage destinations of Hindus in India. Located on the sacred Pushkar Lake at just 10 km from Ajmer and approx. 135 km from Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan, Pushkar is famous for its Brahma Temple, the only temple dedicated to Lord Brahma in India. Pushkar is also famous for its annual Pushkar Fair that has a religious as well as traditional character. The Pushkar Fair is perhaps the largest camel fair in the world and is organized on the auspicious occasion of Karthik Purnima when thousands of Hindu devotees throng to the Pushkar Lake to take a sacred dip.

The four-day long Pushkar Fair is celebrated with great fanfare and normally falls in the months of October-November every year. On this occasion thousands of bejeweled and beautifully decorated camels come in the fair for trading. The camels are decorated with great care with silver jewelry, bells, bangles and beads, which make an interesting sound as they move on. Another interesting feature of camels coming in Pushkar Fair is the piercing of their nose, which is considered a must ritual. Thousands of colorfully attired men and women folk also visit the Pushkar Fair to enjoy this festive occasion. Various cultural and sports programs like exciting camel races, camel dances, camel beauty contest and camel vs. men tug of war contests are also organized on the occasion, adding more charm to already colorful Pushkar Fair. According to estimates around 25,000 camels are traded in the Pushkar Fair every year, making it the largest camel fair in the world.

On your Pushkar Fair Tours, you can also visit the major tourist attractions of Pushkar including the sacred Pushkar Lake, Brahma Temple, Savitri Temple, Rangji Temple, Varah Temple and Apteshwar Temple and many more.
