City Palace
The City Palace in Jaipur easily qualifies as one of the most important tourist attractions of the "pink city" of Jaipur. It is located right in the heart of the old Jaipur city and occupies one seventh of the area of the walled city. Tracing back the history of this magnificent structure, it was built by Sawai Jai Singh II with numerous additions made by his successors. The City Palace with its grand façade is a classic blend of the famed Rajput and Mughal forms of architecture.
The huge City Palace is divided into a series of complexes that boast of numerous elegant buildings, courtyards and well-laid gardens. However it must be mentioned that one part of the City complex, namely the Chandra Mahal is home to the present Maharaja of Jaipur. With its beautiful gardens, paintings, mirror walls and floral decorations, the palace is something dreams are made of.
The city Palace also houses the Maharaja Sawai Man Singh II museum that offers an excellent display of both Rajput and Mughal costumes, miniature paintings, royal paraphernalia and so on. As you explore the huge City Palace complex, you will also come across the famous Diwan-I-Khas hall and the Diwan-E-Aam hall. You will also be able to have a look at the two huge silver vessels that hold the Guinness record for the largest silver vessels in the world.
There are many other attractions that adorn the City Palace like the Hawa Mahal, Badal Mahal, Chhavi Niwas, Mukut Mahal and so on. As you relive the past glory of the place, you are assailed by an enchanting old worldly charm that makes you fall in love with the City Palace.
